Andy Sutch, Chairman. Started life as a Geography teacher, but also looking after the Rugby and Cricket. In 1976 he joined the Sports Council and in 1989 he became the Regional Director for London. In 1999 he was cofounder of “Cultural Partners for London” which lead the sport and cultural activity lobby through to the election of a London Mayor and the GLA. He joined Business In Sport and Leisure in 2003 including a p/t secondment to the London 2012 Bid Team and was a director of Sportsgroup.
He is a Board director of London Sports appointed by the Mayor, Chairman of London Council for Sport and Recreation and Council Member at London Playing Fields Foundation. He is a Fellow of both CIMPSA and the RSA and has an Honorary Fellowship from St Mary’s University. He is a non executive director of Fitmedia, a fitness testing for children start up business.
Kenneth Chivers, Treasurer. Played soccer at non-league level with Woking, Melksham Town and Tetbury Town. Qualified Referee and Soccer Coach. Official of Weylands Sunday Youth League for a number of years and Honorary Vice President of Woking Referees Society. Joined Kew Association in early 80’s and had been very involved in their move back into the Borough and the rebuilding of facilities at ham Playing Fields.
Frances Wetherall, Secretary. Frances has been involved in canoeing for over 30 years. She is a former international competitor having represented Great Britain at 7 World Championships and 2 Olympic Games. Since retiring from competition Frances has remained involved in sport as an administrator, organising events at both national and local levels. More recently she has become a volunteer at a range of small and larger events in the south east in a variety of sports. Frances now also competes in Dragon Boat racing as part of the Kingston Royals team.
Frank T. Perry. Frank has been involved in Martial Arts for over 45 years within the Richmond Borough. He opened the Busen Martial Arts centre over 20 years ago in Twickenham, which continues to thrive. He is a former Vice Chairman of the governing body of karate, as well as former Chairman of the Coaching Committee and Technical Committee.He is also a founder member of Richmond Sports Council and founder member of Sport Richmond.
Kevin Rice. Kevin is a former Chartered Surveyor and successfully ran his own property consultancy in the Hospitality sector for over 20 years. A resident of Richmond Borough since 1988 and a lifelong sportsman, having played a wide variety of sports. In addition, he has had involvement with a number of local sports clubs as the father of two active sons. Still playing cricket but previously a coach with Hampton Hill Cricket Club.
He was a Director/Trustee of Hampton Heated Open Air Pool for 12 years and led the volunteer team through two major refurbishments costing circa £750,000 at the community facility. As part of Sport Richmond, he helped secure significant repair funding for the four Bowls Club’s premises in the Borough. More recently he led the club response to the destruction by arson of the HHCC Clubhouse in 2010, resulting in the construction of a new pavilion opening in 2013 following a design, fundraising and construction process
David Rijvers. David co-founded, planned and built the Richmond Volleyball Club and it is now one of the leading indoor and beach programmes for juniors and adults in London & Surrey. It is also recognised as one of the largest community indoor/beach sports club with over 500 regular participants.
The fact the club has expanded and developed so much has been down to the community programmes, national junior success, bringing funding to the community for the schools programme, winning national/regional club awards, and the creation and development of the Teddington beach venue which he personally had to find additional external funding so that an exciting Olympic sport could be offered to the community under the Olympic legacy.
Preceding and supporting this development he co-founded and helped write the business plan for Goldeneye Executive Resourcing a European Search firm focusing on recruiting Vice Presidents and Director level appointments for technology businesses which was sold to leading national resourcer. As a Human Resource and Business Consultant he also worked for Global IT 500 Firm. He received his Business Degree at Southampton University and his Masters in HR from Kingston University.
He represented England & GB in the 1990’s (20 caps) and is now a distinguished FIVB International Volleyball Coach and UKCC Volleyball England Coach Tutor.
Jimmy Wallace. Jimmy is currently CEO of Richmond Athletic Association and Group Commercial Director of Richmond Rugby Club. He has been involved in sports management and marketing all his career both in Asia and here in the UK. He has a huge passion for all sports, still playing 5-a-side football every week as well as golf and cricket as often as allowed. He has three young sons who are all talented sportsmen and is an active volunteer helping to coach the U8’s at Richmond Cricket Club.
Trevor Wetherall. Trevor has been involved in canoeing since 1968, originally racing himself to World Championship standard and, more recently coaching. Trevor has coached both juniors and seniors to top international standards and attended the 1984 Olympics as National Ladies Coach. He has coached at regional level for the British Canoe Union and helped to establish the National Para-canoeing Team, coaching the original members as they gained their first World Championship medals. He is currently a voluntary coach working at a number of clubs in the region.
